Dr. Thomas A. Gionis is a Physician, Surgeon, Attorney, United States Fulbright Scholar in Law, and former Member of the United States Fulbright PEER Review Committee Global / Public Health; former two-time UCLA Visiting Scholar in Public Health, UCLA School of Public Health; former Research Fellow in Emergency Medicine, Harvard-Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH), who has also served as a Fellow, American College of Legal Medicine; Fellow, American Institute for Healthcare Quality; Fellow, American College of Forensic Examiners; Fellow, International College of Surgeons; and Distinguished Fellow, Royal Society of Fellows. Dr. Gionis has practiced medicine for over 42 years, and is Board Certified by the American Board of Quality Assurance and Utilization Review Physicians.
Dr. Gionis also serves as President & Chairman, of the American Board of Medical Marijuana Physicians (ABMMP) and also the Fulbright Academy of Law, Peace and Public Health. He is deeply committed to both the Hippocratic Oath and Declaration of Geneva.
The American Board of Medical Marijuana Physicians (ABMMP) is the only official certifying body in the United States which provides Board Certification to physicians with expertise in the medical therapeutics and use of cannabinoids and medical marijuana.
Dr. Gionis has been recognized as the youngest individual in United States to be awarded the medical degree (M.D.); he graduated high school at 16 years of age and in approximately one year completed 3 ½ years of college, thereby starting medical school at 17, and was awarded the M.D. degree at 21 years of age.
He obtained his M.D. degree from the Medical University of South Carolina; J.D. degree (Cum Laude), John Marshall Law School (Chicago); M.P.H., University of California, Los Angeles (U.C.L.A.); M.B.A., Pepperdine University Graduate School of Business (Malibu); M.H.A., Seton Hall University, Center for Public Service (Orange, NJ); and his L.L.M., St. Thomas University School of Law (Miami). Dr. Gionis also received the Advanced Certificate in International Law, Academie de’ Droit International de La Haye, The Hague Academy of International Law.
Dr. Gionis has been an invited Lecturer at the UCLA School of Public Health, where he lectured in Health Law and Principles of Global Health; and has been a frequent Invited Lecturer on topics such as Human Research Subject Protection, Bioethics, Global Public Health, Peace, and International Law, at seminars and conferences of the United Nations UNESCO worldwide (for over a decade); and has served as Chairman, Joint Study Committee on Clinical Research Ethics (Joint Program of Fulbright Academy of Science and Technology & American Board of Healthcare Law and Medicine).
Additionally, Dr. Gionis has served as President, American University of Sovereign Nations, and Dean, American University of Sovereign Nations School of Medicine – the first-ever University in United States history to be on Native American Tribal Sovereign Nation Land to offer the Master of Public Health (MPH) and Master of Bioethics and Global Public Health (MBGPH) degrees.
Dr. Gionis completed his general surgery residency and cardiovascular surgery fellowship at Tulane Medical Center – Charity Hospital, New Orleans, Louisiana, and his Research Fellowship in Emergency Medicine Research, Harvard University-Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH), Department of Emergency Medicine (Boston). He taught advanced trauma life support at Harvard-MGH for well over a decade. He has achieved his Instructor’s Certificate in Advanced Trauma Life Support from both the Harvard University-Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) and Yale Medical School Department of Surgery.
Dr. Gionis is Certified with the States of Florida, New York and California, to prescribe and recommend CBD and Medical Marijuana for the Compassionate Use in providing patient care.
